I Donut Care Hand
This is a glimpse of the experimental process that led to my very first hand-lettered mug. There’s nothing quite like sipping your morning brew from your own punny illustration to get your day started on the right foot.
As always, I started out by sketching and inking my idea on paper. This was actually the first draft in both pencil and ink. I was happily surprised with the results because first drafts rarely end up ever seeing the light of day.
After scanning, vectorizing, and coloring my lettering, I dropped the graphic into a mockup to get a better idea of what it could look like. I love Photoshop mockups. My hard drive, however, will eventually run out of space if I don’t stop downloading every mockup I come across “just in case I ever need it!”
I ordered the finished product from Cafepress.com since I (unfortunately) do not own a mug press or necessary printer. I’m happy with the quality and color results, but I probably could have shopped around for a better deal.
